Back to school is upon us! Seeing the school bus picking outside my house, and the Reed School totes for the kindergartners, brings back so many memories! BTS was different for us this year - we just moved our youngest daughter into college and I am feeling a big transition coming on. There is a lot to be excited about, but the house is a lot more quiet and there is only me to walk the dog!
With more time on our hands, I am so excited to see some new businesses opening! Just last week, Tartine - soft launched in Strawberry Village. The cafe has come back to Marin and serves their signature country bread, pastries, and a Marin exclusive - peach and Mt. Tam cheese danish (seriously!!)
And just across the parking lot, Cholita Linda has opened as well. With their latin american street food with a California twist - I’m so excited! I am a fish taco fanatic (my SoCal upbringing shows through!) and I can’t get enough of these! A great spot for lunch and for the whole family, it’s bright but laid back with fresh salads, house-made aguas frescas and more.
And in case you missed it, California Mahjong House is opened last week in Tiburon! While I am still a beginner, this spot with so many fun sets and accessories, is cute enough to make me want to play more!
We have a lot happening throughout the Bay Area right now in real estate. While the national news is mixed and many markets across the country have been sluggish this summer - in Marin, we are seeing a lot of demand, driven by wealth creation in AI and tight inventory. Well appointed homes selling quickly, often for six-figures over the list price. Many are not even making it to the public market. Which means, if you are a buyer, you want to be as well prepared to move quickly as possible. It also means, access to off-market inventory is very important. I am reaching out to colleagues daily right now to explore homes that are being prepped and that might be a fit, and getting a jump on the competition, before they hit the market.
Based on information compiled by Compass’ Chief economist, Mike Simonsen: Mortgage rates stayed near their yearly highs through July, tempering demand elsewhere but not in San Francisco. The city's sales are being driven by AI-fueled wealth creation rather than rate conditions, with demand concentrated in family-ready homes in specific neighborhoods. We are seeing that demand, spill over the bridge to Marin County as well.
As we enter the fall, we will see inventory continue to build and may see a longer selling season before the typical holiday slow down. Enjoy our late summer season, as the fog retreats and days begin to warm up!
